Sacred Heart "A" win Five A Side Cup after tremendous displays in Semi Finals and Final.
Sacred Heart "A" team won the Five A Side Cup at Central Park last night after a tremendous effort in both their Semi Final and Final matches. In the Semi Final against the West Kirby Victoria "A" team, Sacred Heart ignoring the fact that the green was heavy and just concentrating on getting on with their game, played excellent bowls to win by 101 shots to 90. John Sherlock with a brilliant 21-12 victory over Robby Hall and Lynsey Gorman in defeating Matt Gilmore 21-19 were the stars of the show. Queens Royal "A" team meanwhile had five winners in their Semi Final victory over Manor Road "E" by 105 shots to 68. Special mention must go to the excellent performance of the Manor Road side in reaching the Semi Finals and for their sportsmanship in defeat, a lesson to others I think!! The Final saw some tremendous bowling with Lynsey Gorman coming from 02-10 down to lead 17-10 and finally run out a 21-18 winner in an excellent game with Les Henderson. Geoff Lynch re-dressed the balance for Queens Royal with a fine 21-16 win over Alan Hughes but two stunning 21-13 victories for Tommy Walker and Steve Smith against Paul Saville and Chris Barton respectively turned out to be just too much for Queens Royal. When John Sherlock sealed his 21-18 win against Craig Saville, it not only completed a good night for him personally but also gave Sacred Heart the trophy for the first time since 2003 and their third victory in all. The Sacred Heart Skipper for the night, young Kye Gorman was delighted to receive the trophy from Association President, Keith Etches. I would like to thank all the spectators who turned up last night for what was a fine evenings bowling.

Race Night Friday May 2nd 2008
Sacred Heart Social Club
Moreton Cross
Moreton
First Race 8-30 pm

The Wallasey C.G.B.A. Executive Committee invite all member clubs to our 2nd Annual Race Night to be held with the kind permission of the Sacred Heart Bowling Club at their excellent Social Club in Moreton.
In our endeavour not to increase fees during the next few years, this social evening goes a long way to allowing us to do that. Last year we managed to raise over £450 on the night and hopefully with the support of a few more clubs we could match or even increase that sum. After your Birkenhead League match on May 2nd why not get down to Sacred Heart for a relaxing and entertaining evening’s fun.
Tickets are only 50p, which include a bet on the first race. Each member club has 4 tickets and your club Secretary has any details you require.

League Season gets underway tomorrow night (Thursday 24th April)
The 2008 Wallasey C.G.B.A. League season gets underway tomorrow night with last season's Division One Champions, West Kirby Victoria at home to Queens Royal "B". 2007 2nd Division Champions, Hoylake Central start their Division 1 campaign with an away trip to Manor Road "A" with newly promoted Magazine at home to Manor Road "B". In Division 2, last season's 3rd Division Champions, Manor Road "C" are away at last season Division 3 runners up Royden Hall. Division 3 sees relegated Bronze take on Brighton Telegraph at home in their quest to move straight back up to Division 2. I would like to remind Division 3 Club Secretaries, that Queens Royal "C" have withdrawn their side from the League this year and unfortunately scheduled opponents concerning Queens Royal "C" now result in a blank week for that particular club. All matches in April start at 6-15pm.

Bronze encouraging Junior Bowlers at Central Park
Encouraging news regarding Junior Bowlers aged between 11 and 16 came from the Bronze Bowling Club today when the club released details of training sessions at Central Park on Saturday and Sunday mornings between 10-00 am and 12 o'clock midday. Joe Lee (638 2953) from the Bronze would like to invite any interested bowlers, male or female to attend and get involved in our great game. The Bronze will also be holding a fun day at Central Park on Friday May 30th for the Junior Bowlers to mix with the club members and involve themselves in matches on the day. The fun day will be from 12 o'clock midday until 4-00pm and hopefully there will be a good attendance to reward the Bronze Bowling Club's initiative in trying to involve more Junior players in our game. Any member clubs with Junior players should take advantage of these sessions and if you require more information contact Joe Lee at 0151 638 2953

Lenny Sherbrooke
I am very sad to have to report the sad loss of Lenny Sherbrooke, who passed away this morning after a long fight against serious illness. Lenny was a long time member of West Kirby Victoria Bowling Club and his three sons Karl, Ian and Neill all play for West Kirby Victoria and the Wallasey C.G.B.A. British Parks County side. Lenny will be sorely missed at West Kirby and all our sympathies go to his wife Beryl and to Karl, Ian and Neil at this sad time. I will post funeral details as and when I receive them.

Tragic loss of much valued Executive Committee Member, Denis Bulman.
Once again I am very sad to have to report the loss of a valued member of our bowling community. Denis Bulman tragically lost his long fight against serious illness, when he passed away in hospital yesterday dinner time. Denis was well known throughout the Wallasey and Wirral bowling area and played for clubs such as 27 Club, Quarry Vikings and Manor Road. Denis was an integral part of the Wallasey C.G.B.A. Executive Committee and his tireless work in raising funds for the Association will be sorely missed. To witness "Bully's" hilarious antics at reckoning up his ticket sales on a Sunday lunchtime was something well worth seeing and Bully will obviously live in our memory for a long time. All our sympathies go to Denis's family at this terrible time. I will post any funeral arrangements as soon as I have any details.
Thursday 3rd April
Two changes to published Starred Player list.
Will all club Secretaries please note two changes to the starred player list on page 67 of the 2008 handbook. For Manor Road "B", A.Clark replaces W.Davies and for Quarry Vikings, G.Lomax is added to the list after inadvertently being omitted from the original form sent to the printers, in other words another mistake by the Wallasey C.G.B.A. Secretary !!!
Wednesday 2nd April
Another sad loss to the bowling community as "K.L." passes away.
I am very sorry to have to report the sad loss of another stalwart of Wallasey bowls, Keith Looney, who sadly died after a short illness on Monday. Keith was a founder member of the old "27 Club" bowling club and will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. The Wallasey C.G.B.A. offer our sincere sympathies to Keith's family at this sad time.
