Vice Chairman completes Five A Side draw from hospital bed.
Association Vice Chairman, Dave Leonard, unfortunately admitted to Arrowe Park hospital last week, might have thought that he would be able to rest up for a few days whilst recuperating from his serious illness, no chance !!! Keith Etches (President) and Peter Dodd ( Secretary) decided to combine a visit to see Dave last night armed with all the paraphernalia to make the draws for the Preliminary and First rounds of the Five A Side cup. The full details of the draw can be seen via the Team Competitions page and I can inform members that Dave is feeling a little better than last week but is still waiting for the consultant's report on his heart condition.

Player Resignations
With the deadline for Club and player registrations falling yesterday, I would like to point out the law regarding players resigning from one club in order to join another. This week I have had to refuse 5 applications from players wishing to resign from clubs they played for last season simply because they were too late with their resignations. I would remind players that we follow the laws of the Wirral & District Crown Green Bowling Association and as such in our Constitution and Laws regarding Team Competitions (Cup and League) law 3 is as follows:
3 A player having played for a club during a season shall not be eligible to play in a league or cup match for another club in the current season, with the exception of a player of a club withdrawing from the league competition, without having tendered his resignation as a league player to his club and notified the League Secretary not later than the 14th January. The Secretary of each club shall be responsible for notifying the league re resignations, new members and registered players. No player can be registered after July 1st unless with the consent of the Executive Committee.
At a Wirral & District Council meeting on Monday 29th January the Committee decided that January 14th was the final date for resignations and no exceptions to this ruling would be allowed.
I understand from the various players that I have spoken to this week that they thought the resignation date was 31st January, as in the Birkenhead & Wirral Crown Green Bowling League but unfortunately I could not allow those players to tender late resignations. If I were to allow this we would leave ourselves open to players wanting to resign at any time up the start of the season.
The above law can be seen either via the Constitution and Laws page of this website or on page 53 of the 2006 Wirral Crown Green Bowls handbook.

Ronny Chatten
I am sorry to have to report that Ronny Chatten, from the Gladstone Bowling Club, passed away on Friday 5th January after a long period of illness. Ronny had been involved with the Gladstone Club for over 50 years and was of course Secretary there for a long time. Ronny had to relinquish his position as President of the Birkenhead & Wirral Crown Green Bowling League at their Annual General Meeting in December because of his ill health. Ronny will of course be sadly missed by all bowlers on the Wirral and our condolences go to his Family at this sad time. The Funeral arrangements are as follows:
Friday 19th January: 11-00am, Church Service at the United Reformed Church, Old Chester Road, Birkenhead and then onto Landican at 12 o'clock midday.
The Gladstone Club will welcome all mourners to their Club after the service at Landican.

Birkenhead & Wirral Crown Green Bowling League finally allow Lady Bowlers.
At tonight's Birkenhead & Wirral Crown Green Bowling League A.G.M., a proposal from the Albany Bowling Club to omit "mens" from the constitution was approved, therefore allowing Lady Bowlers to compete in the League from the start of the 2007 Season. This brings the Birkenhead League in line with our own Wallasey Association and the Wirral & District Association and Bebington and District League in allowing Lady Bowlers to participate in all events except the British Parks Senior County Championship.
