The North Wirral League Secretary, Andy Wainwright, would like to thank all the teams that took part in the North Wirral League 2010 season. Personally I think the teams themselves should be thanking both Andy and his Chairman, Tommy Walker, for all the time and effort they put into this unique league which, to me anyway, seems to be going from strength to strength each season. I believe, yet again, that there have been enquiries fro new teams showing an interest in joining the League for 2011. This is the sign that the League's unique formula of matches is welcomed by all the bowlers taking part.

Thursday September 9th

Division One Finals Day

Cheshire Cheese confirmed their position as Division One leaders by winning the Finals Day play off's at Manor Road on Saturday September 4th. They beat Sacred Heart by a comfortable 13 shots in the Final having earlier defeated Moreton Royal British Legion by by 20 shots in their semi final encounter. Sacred Heart had produced an easy 28 shot victory against Poulton in their semi final to progress to the final against Cheshire Cheese. The best parings of the day were Billy Clements and Brian Winstanley from Cheshire Cheese, who won both their matches.

Division Two Finals Day

The Semi Finals & Final day for the Division Two teams took place at Manor Road on Saturday with the outcome of the Final being a very close affair. Upton Victory Hall beat Perch Rock by just 2 shots in an exciting final. Upton had earlier beaten Bronze in their semi final, in another close affair, this time 6 shots being the winning margin. Perch Rock had beaten the actual Division Two League Leaders, Liscard by 12 shots in their semi final but could not manage a repeat showing in the Final. The Perch Rock pairing of Chris Morrison & Andy Wainwright proved to be the outstanding pairing of the day, winning both their matches.

Cheshire Cheese Win North Wirral Cup

Cheshire Cheese won the 2010 North Wirral Cup Final last Saturday after beating Upton Victory Hall by a convincing 53 shots in the Final. Cheshire Cheese had earlier beaten Liscard by just 10 shots in a close run Semi Final with Upton Victory Hall overcoming Moreton RBL by 16 shots in their Semi Final. The Cheshire Cheese Husband and Wife pairing of Mike & Margie Lewis played magnificently in both the Semi Final and Final, with the Cheshire Cheese pairing of Brian Kenyon and John Torley winning their Final match very well. League Secretary, Andy Wainwright, would like to thank all the teams that took part in the 2010 North Wirral Cup with a special vote of thanks going to his right hand man, Tommy Walker. Once again this was an enjoyable day's bowling for all concerned and as Wallasey C.G.B.A. Secretary, I would like to thank Andy and Tommy for all the work they put in during the season to allow bowlers of all levels to enjoy a Finals Day.

North Wirral Cup Quarter Final Results

The two best results from the Quarter Final Matches were: T.Brown and H.Timperley from Liscard and K.Balgobin and J.Bowness fro Upton Victory Hall. Both pairings had 21-00 whitewash victories over their unfortunate opponents.

The Four Teams to go through to the Semi Finals and Final Day, to be played at Manor Road on Saturday August 7th starting at 12 noon are :

Upton Victory Hall, Liscard, Moreton R.B.L. and Cheshire Cheese

The draw for the Semi Finals will be made on the day. Good luck to everyone playing.

North Wirral Cup Results

Results from this week's Preliminary Round matches in the North Wirral Cup can be seen below. The best recorded card on the night was a 21-05 victory for S.Wharton and G.Scarisbrick from Grange against Manor Road. Manor Road did however progress into the next round with an 89 -51 victory.

The Quarter Final Draw, matches to be played by April 21st is as follows

2010 Season Details

Following last week's pre season meeting held at Manor Road Bowling Club, I am pleased to report the following details for members of the North Wirral Bowling League.

The Officers of the League are as above, with the enthusiastic Andy Wainwright continuing his excellent work as Secretary / Treasurer.

North Wirral League Rules 2010

1)  Membership open to all Teams in the Bebington & District Bowling League, Birkenhead & Wirral Crown Green Bowling League and the Wallasey Crown Green Bowling Association.

2)  Players Starred for any First Division League Bowls are not allowed to play in the North Wirral League.

3)  All players must have a current British Crown Green Bowling Association Registration Number.

4)  The Annual Subscription per Team shall be decided at either the Annual General Meeting or the Pre Season Meeting. Fees for 2010 are £30 per Team.

5)  No Practice on green allowed before Cup Matches.

6)  Any Club wishing to resign from the League must do so, in writing, to the League Secretary, before January 1st, otherwise any such Club will have to pay the Subscription Fee for the ensuing season.

7)  Dress Code will apply on all Finals Days.

8)  The Financial Payout for success in the coming season will be : Division One Winners £100,   Runners Up £50

League And Cup Final Dates 2010

North Wirral Cup Final : Saturday August 7th 2010 at Manor Road Bowling Club, 12 Noon Start.

North Wirral League Division Two, Semi Finals and Final Day, Saturday August 28th 2010 at Manor Road Bowling Club, 12 Noon Start.

North Wirral League Division One, Semi Finals and Final Day, Saturday September 4th 2010 at Manor Road Bowling Club, 12 Noon Start.

Playing Format for Season 2010

All League and Cup Matches will be doubles (5 Pairs)

Division One will consist of: 1 Cheshire Cheese, 2 Manor Road. 3 Poulton, 4 Sacred Heart, 5 Grange, 6 Moreton Royal British Legion.

Division Two will consist of: 1 Liscard, 2 Bronze, 3 Upton Victory Hall, 4 Great Float, 5 Quarry Vikings, 6 Perch Rock.

Matches will be Home and Away, each team playing 10 matches, 5 Home and 5 Away.

The top four teams in each Division will go through to the respective Divisional Finals Day.

The bottom two teams in Division One will be liable for relegation to Division Two and the Top Two teams in Division Two will be promoted to Division One.

A Straight Knockout Cup Competition will consist of all 12 teams in the draw for this Handicap Competition.

In the case of a Division One Team drawing a Division One team, then the match will be off Scratch.

In the case of a Division Two Team drawing a Division Two team, then the match will be off Scratch.

In the case of a Division One Team drawing a Division Two team, then the Division Two team will receive a 10 shot start.
