Change of dates for Club & Player resignations
Following the Wirral & District A.G.M. and last night's Bebington League A.G.M. new dates were proposed and accepted unanimously for Club and Player resignations. We at Wallasey did not include a Notice of Motion in line with these changes of dates for our A.G.M. last Wednesday but will be falling in line with the new dates. The Officers of the Association have decided that as all the Clubs registered with the Wallasey C.G.B.A. did in fact contribute to the unanimous decision made at the Wirral & District C.G.B.A. A.G.M. last Monday, then there is no need for an E.G.M. or indeed any need to wait until next year's A.G.M. to change our rule. The Birkenhead & Wirral Crown Green Bowling League will be voting on this issue at their meeting next Monday and as all their Clubs have already voted acceptance at the Wirral A.G.M., they are honour bound to vote in favour, therefore all of our Associations will have the same dates in future. As regards the Wallasey C.G.B.A. our Constitutional Law number 4: Membership will now read as follows:
4 Membership
A club applying for membership of the Association shall furnish any information if and when required. Clubs wishing to withdraw from the Association must do so before January 14th or render themselves liable to the fees for the ensuing season. All affiliated Clubs must be registered with the Wirral & District Crown Green Bowling Association.
Our Team Competition Rules General ( applicable to both League and / or Cup) Number 3 will now read as follows.
3
A player having played for a club during a season shall not be able to play in a League or Cup match for another Club in the following season, with the exception of a player of a club withdrawing from the Association, without having tendered his resignation as a player to his Club and notified the Association Secretary not later than December 31st in each year. The Secretary of each Club shall be responsible for notifying the Association regarding resignations, new members and registered players. No player can be registered after July 1st unless with the consent of the Executive Committee.
N.B. We will however allow players a little leniency, this year only, regarding resignations but no player will be allowed to resign from their club to play for another club in the 2010 season after January 14th, 2010.
Full copies of the new Constitutional Laws will be forwarded to Clubs next month with all the registration details.

Annual General Meeting review
There was a near full turn out at tonight's Annual General Meeting at Manor Road with only 2 Clubs not represented. The main points to arise from the meeting were: Ron Hitchmough was elected as a Life Member of the Association in recognition of his service to the Association over many years. Peter and Mary Fishwick were elected as Vice Presidents of the Association in recognition of their continued support as both Referees and fund raisers for the Association. The Notices of Motion presented to the delegates present saw items 1, 2, and 3 (as printed in the post of September 17th below) accepted by the delegates but Motion number 4, regarding a new points scoring system, was rejected by the delegates after a show of hands. There was a very healthy and amicable discussion amongst the delegates about this proposal by the Executive Committee and it was pleasing to see that so many Clubs were willing to have their say. Wallasey Royal British Legion will be entering a third team into the Association in 2010 bringing our total of teams up to 32. The Financial report showing a healthy balance of over £2300 in the bank was accepted by the delegates and both the Secretary and Competition Secretary as usual gave their in depth reports of the season just passed. Chris Barton gave his report on a successful season for our British Parks County Teams and there was the usual presentation of prizes and Championship trophies. Rick Keeley gave the Officers of the Association and the Executive Committee an eloquent and very much appreciated vote of thanks for their efforts over the season and proposed that they all be reinstated en bloc. The delegates accepted this unanimously and the Chairman closed the meeting after his usual report to the delegates. I would like to thank all who attended tonight with special thanks to the following guests for giving their own time to attend our meeting. John Crowther (B.C.G.B.A. Chief Executive), Pat Crowther (Merseyside County C.G.B.A. Secretary), Roy Cooke ( Wirral & District C.G.B.A., Chairman), Dave Hulmston ( President, Bebington & District Bowling League), Ken Griffiths ( Bebington & District Bowling League and Birkenhead & Wirral C.G.B.L. Afternoon Section, Chairman), Brian Hampson ( Birkenhead & Wirral C.G.B.L. Financial Secretary).
Sunday November 22nd
Annual General Meeting
After a 2 month break from the almost daily updates on the website, mainly due to preparations for the AGM's of the Wallasey C.G.B.A., the Wirral & District C.G.B.A. and West Kirby Victoria Bowling Club, I am happy to report that information on the site will now be more frequent again. I would like to remind all our members that our Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 25th at the Manor Road Bowling Club starting at 7-30pm. I am happy to report that Wallasey Royal British Legion have made a request to enter a third team in the Association next season. So far there have been no resignations from the current membership and hopefully this will mean we will have 32 teams in the Association next season, with Two Divisions of 11 teams and One Division of 10 teams. Incidentally, the Wirral & District C.G.B.A. Annual General Meeting will be held at Lever Club tomorrow night, Monday, 23rd November starting at 7-30pm.
Tuesday September 22nd
Respectful reminder to Club Treasurers
I would like to respectfully remind all Club Treasurers that their Club Second Accounts should be settled by September 30th. I would like to thank the thirteen Clubs who have already sent in their cheques and hopefully by next Wednesday all Clubs will have paid their Account allowing me to collate the balance sheet for the A.G.M.

I would like to thank all 21 Clubs in the Association and all their members for their help throughout the season in making sure all our fixtures were completed within 5 days of the scheduled close of the season. With the terrible weather during the summer, the fact that all the matches postponed because of waterlogged greens etc. were re-arranged and played in such quick time is a testimony to the friendly co-operation between clubs in the Wallasey C.G.B.A. You will notice from the table above that once again we have been unable to complete the Junior Merit or the Wallasey Festival Individual competitions this season due to lack of entries. I would like to thank all the individuals who have contacted me with various ideas as to how we might revamp the competitions to attract sufficient entries and the Executive Committee will be discussing these suggestions before our A.G.M. on November 25th. In the case of the Junior Merit, the lack of registered Junior bowlers in the Wallasey C.G.B.A. is the major concern and we will be looking at ways of trying to attract more Juniors to our game.
At the moment we have 4 Notices of Motion under consideration by our Clubs for discussion at the A.G.M. and these can be seen below. If you have any comments to make on the 4 issues, please contact your Club Secretary to enable him to suggest any amendments which have to reach me by September 30th at the latest.
The Executive Committee will be recommending acceptance of Notices 1 and 2, with Notices 3 and 4 going out to delegates at the A.G.M. for discussion and voting.
1)
Team Competition Rule: General, Number 14.
Add at end of present rule.
If, whilst in the possession of a Club holding a Trophy, said Trophy should be lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair, then it is the responsibility of the Club to replace the Trophy with a new Trophy of a suitable standard acceptable by the Association.
2)
Team Competition Rule: Cup
Add Rule 11
In all Cup Finals, the B.C.G.B.A. Dress Code shall apply.
Male bowlers should follow the rules below.
Trousers: These shall be full length, single coloured trousers in grey or black. Studs, rivets and zipped pockets are not allowed. Shell suits, Track suits or denims are not allowed nor are cargo pants.
Shirts: These shall be collared shirts only.
Female Bowlers should follow the rules below.
Trousers, tailored shorts, tailored cropped trousers or skirts, these shall be at least knee length and single coloured.
Shirts: These shall be single coloured with sleeves and collar.
It is the responsibility of the Association Secretary to inform competing Clubs that Dress Code will be required in Finals and if any player does not observe the rule, he or she will not be permitted to play in the said Final and a suitably attired substitute will replace the offending bowler.
Nothing in the above rule shall prevent exceptions being made for Individuals with a relevant disability.
3)
Team Competition Rule; General, Number 4.
Replace present rule with:
Clubs with “B” Teams shall star 10 players for League matches who will not be eligible to play in any “B” or “C” team fixture (League or Cup). They shall also star a further 2 players (in brackets), who will not be able to play in Cup fixtures for “B” or “C” teams. Clubs with “C” Teams shall star a further 8 players who will not be able to play in any “C” team fixture. In all cases, the starrings should be the recognised strongest players a Club can field. All Starred Player lists will need to be approved by the Executive Committee before publication in either the Handbook or on the Wallasey C.G.B.A. website. The Committee will liaise with a Club should they feel that the Starred Player list is not conducive with the recognition of a Clubs strongest players. In the event of any starred player not playing in the first five matches, an additional name must be submitted, by the respective club, to the Executive Committee for approval for change.
4)
Team Competition Rule: League, Number 3.
Replace rule number 3 with;
The result of the Competition to be decided on points. I point for each Individual Winner Home or Away and 2 points for the team winning each match on the total scores of the twelve games. An extra point will be awarded to the Team winning the aggregate score over both League fixtures between the same sides during the season. 29 Points in total will be available over the two League Fixtures. In the event of a tie on points the Championship will be decided by the team with the most aggregate points during the season. Where aggregate points are equal, then a play off will decide, on a neutral green, the date and time to be arranged by the Executive Committee.

Colin and Craig Saville triumph in Tom Bassnett Pairs
The Father & Son combination of Colin and Craig Saville came through a long days bowling at a sunny Central Park this afternoon to beat club mates Chris Barton and Geoff Lynch 21-19 in an excellent Tom Bassnett Pairs final. The day started disappointingly for the organisers with the non appearance of 3 pairs who had entered the competition, making the draw a bit lopsided at the bottom end of the first round. A phone call would have been appreciated but there was nothing we could do at such a late stage to replace the absent pairings. Back to the competition and Colin and Craig started their day off with a difficult game against the husband and wife pairing of Ian and Linda Mitchell, coming from behind to post a 21-15 winning card. Chris Barton and Geoff Lynch meanwhile had to start off with a preliminary round match against Ritchie Dawson and Dave Harper and they progressed with a confidant 21-10 victory. In the first round Chris and Colin came from 09-07 down to record a 21-11 win against Nobby Clark and George Stead. Colin and Craig Saville benefited from the non appearance of 2 pairs to earn a bye into the semi finals whilst Chris Barton and Geoff Lynch powered to a 21-06 victory over Jimmy Bunting and Andy Wainwright. The semi finals saw Chris Barton and Geoff Lynch take on Association President, Keith Etches and Association Secretary, Peter Dodd and the young pups showed no respect whatsoever by posting a 21-10 win. Their cards are now marked and Chris and Geoff will have to beware next season!!! Colin and Craig Saville took on the experienced duo of Jackie Beecham and Bob Edwards in their semi final and marched into the final with a fine 21-12 victory. The all Queens Royal final saw the lead changing hand regularly with some excellent bowling, although I think I did hear Chris mentioning that Colin and Craig might have been a bit lucky with a number of "jive ins" before accepting Colin's explanation that skill was the major factor, I think he accepted it anyway. The match went to 19 across with Colin and Craig producing 2 woods too good for Chris's fires and therefore running out deserved 21-19 winners, I think Geoff said deserved winners, I could be wrong. Seriously, I would like to thank all the bowlers who turned up today as the competition was a great success, played in good spirit with all the bowlers enjoying the sunshine but wondering where it has been all season.

Royal performances from Queens "A" as they win the Five A Side Cup
A determined Queens Royal "A" team turned on the style last night with two commanding displays in the Semi Final and Final of the Five A Side Cup at Royden Hall, to take the Cup back to Wallasey for the 2nd time in 3 years. In their Semi Final against old rivals West Kirby Victoria "B", Royal proved that their earlier round victory against West Kirby Victoria "A" was no fluke, defeating the Vics "B" team by a comfortable 17 shots with four winners to one. Craig Saville was the star of the show for Royal in this Semi Final match with an impressive 21-06 victory. Neil Sherbrooke did reply with an equally impressive 21-07 for West Kirby but good wins for Les Henderson, Colin Saville and Steve Scott saw Royal cruise into the Final. The second Semi Final was an in house affair with 2 of the Sacred Heart entries in the competition meeting each other and it was the Sacred Heart "D" team who proved too strong for their "B" team with a ten shot victory. Ian Birch's excellent 21-05 victory was to prove crucial in this match as with 3 winners to 2 the other 4 games were much closer with Lynsey Gorman and Steve Smith's victories doing enough to counteract the Sacred Heart "B" winners in Steve Hollywood and Albert Ford. The Final between Queens Royal "A" and Sacred Heart "D" got off to an explosive start with the Royal Skipper, Les Henderson powering to a match winning 21-02 victory with an immaculate display of round peg, edge bowling along the bottom of the green. Lynsey Gorman produced a spirited reply for Sacred Heart with a commanding 21-10 win to bring Sacred Heart to within 2 points after 2 matches played. Queens Royal powered away after that however with Eddie Dutton 21-12, Steve Scott 21-15 and Craig Saville 21-20, in the game of the night, all winning to give a final 94-76 shot winning score line for Royal. This was an excellent night's bowling on the superb Royden Hall green and special thanks go to the Royden Hall Club members for allowing us to use their green for so many of our competitions this season.

Wallasey Festival Cancelled
As previously posted, the Entries for the Wallasey Festival have been very poor and despite extending the closing date to yesterday, we still do not have sufficient numbers to run a meaningful competition. The 2009 Festival scheduled for this coming Sunday (September 6th) has therefore been cancelled. I think we will have to discuss our Individual Competitions at length at our Annual General Meeting in November and if anyone has any ideas as to how we might improve our Entries, we would much appreciate them.
Hopefully the Tom Bassnett Pairs Competition, scheduled for Sunday September 13th will go ahead as planned but with West Kirby Victoria playing in the British Parks Team Knockout on that day, we already know our usual Entries from that Club will be down. Please try and speak to your Club Members to make an effort to enter what is our most enjoyable competition of the season. Entries close on Saturday 5th September and at only £5 per pair, the Entry Fee is very reasonable. Players do not have to be from the same Club to enter as a pair in this competition.
