Wednesday 2nd September

North Wirral League, Semi Finals and Final Day

The League Semi Finals and Final were held at Manor Road Bowling Club last Saturday, August 29th. The Four Semi Finalists were Cheshire Cheese, Manor Road, Poulton and Sacred Heart.

The First Semi Final saw Sacred Heart defeat Manor Road by only 1 shot with Cheshire Cheese defeating Poulton in the Second Semi Final.

Cheshire Cheese went on to beat Sacred Heart in an exciting Final by only 2 shots.

Best win of the day in the Semi Finals saw Mark Warrington and Dave Lewis from Cheshire Cheese post a 21-07 winning card.

In the Final Marg Lewis and Mike Lewis also produced a 21-07 winning card for Cheshire Cheese.

Sensational  news, was made before the Final when League Secretary and (by far, Cheshire Cheese's best player, Andy Wainwright) or so it says on the letter sent to me, was dropped by the brave Cheese Captain, Gary Lewis. Watch this space for a possible transfer request from a suitably chastened Andy !!!

An excellent buffet was provided by the Ladies after the match with all three Ladies receiving a bouquet of flowers in recognition of their hard work.

Dress Code will apply on Finals Days

There will be a draw for a bottle of Whiskey and two bottles of wine on the day and there will be a buffet laid on for the players and officials on the day. Prize Money will be £100 to the Winners and £60 for the Runners Up. Good luck to all the teams.

Sacred Heart awarded North Wirral League Cup after registration mix up.

Sacred Heart have been awarded the North Wirral League Cup after it was found that Manor Road had actually played two unregistered players in the Cup Final at Manor Road on Saturday August 8th. There was no deliberate attempt by Manor Road to gain an illegal advantage as both the players are registered for the Club in all other Associations and Leagues but unfortunately for Manor Road they had not been added to their North Wirral League registration list. This incident does re-iterate the fact that all Team Captains and Secretaries must ensure that all players are registered with the appropriate authorities when they join their respective Clubs.

Manor Road win North Wirral League Cup

After a magnificent afternoon's bowling at Manor Road last Saturday, the host Club, Manor Road defeated Sacred Heart by 3 winners to 2 in the League Cup Final after both sides had scored 85 each in a tremendous drawn match. Sacred Heart had earlier beaten Poulton by 8 shots in a close semi final and Manor Road defeated Cheshire Cheese by only 2 shots in their semi final. On a brilliantly sunny afternoon at the immaculate Manor Road green, the whole event was a credit to the North Wirral League and their energetic Secretary, Andy Wainwright.

2009 Finals Day Details

The following dates have now been finalised for all the North Wirral Bowling League 2009 Finals Days.

North Wirral League Cup: Finals Day  Semi Finals and Final: Saturday August 8th at Manor Road  12 Noon Start

North Wirral League, Top Four Finals Day (teams finishing 1-4 in League): Saturday August 30th at Manor Road  12 Noon Start

North Wirral League, Consolation Finals Day (teams finishing 5-8 in League): Saturday September 12th at Manor Road  12 Noon Start

Thursday 5th March

North Wirral League Cup 2009

The draw for the 2009 North Wirral League Cup can be seen below. This is a straight knockout competition with the Preliminary Round matches to be completed before the end of June. The Quarter Final matches need to be played before the end of July with the Semi Finals and Final to be played on the same day, Saturday August 8th at Manor Road Bowling Club starting at 12 Noon. There will be a buffet and draw on the day of the Final. All Secretaries are reminded that they have to arrange mutually agreed dates for the Preliminary and Quarter Final Matches and they must notify the League Secretary, Andy Wainwright, of these dates.
